SENIOR CUP FINAL - FRIDAY 3rd APRIL 2015
BORDEN VILLAGE FC v APM CONTRAST RESERVES FC
HOMELANDS, ASHFORD
BORDEN VILLAGE FC v APM CONTRAST RESERVES FC
HOMELANDS, ASHFORD
The day started cool and overcast, though ideal conditions to play football. Committee members and match day volunteers arrived early to prepare for this special occasion. Both teams soon arrived and good humoured banter could be heard around the ground.
The four match officials lead the two teams out and the Weald of Kent Chairman presented two cheques to representatives of The Air Ambulance and The Pilgrims Hospice, this year’s selected charities.
The game was fast paced, and in the first half the football was end to end, the young APM Contrast keeper was tested a number of times though together with excellent defensive work by the APM Contrast defenders managed to keep the score level at half time.
The second half saw Borden Village pile on the pressure and at 55 minutes Borden Village Ross Frost opened up the scoring with a thumping header. Borden continued to pressure though APM remained composed and counter attacked a number of times. At 76 minutes APM strike at Borden’s top right corner nearly saw them draw level though the Borden Village goalkeeper was quick to react denying APM this opportunity.
At 79 minutes Borden’s shouts for a penalty were rightly dismissed by Referee, Vince Barnes and somewhat disappointingly, more so given this was a charity match, on the 81 minute Vince was given reason to issue a caution (yellow) against a Borden Village player.
The game came to a close and for the third consecutive year Borden Village took the honours.
Special thanks goes to the four match day officials, all volunteered their time, Vince Barnes, Darren Whipps, Ben Conlon and Dave Olsen.
Man of the Match: Sam Brown (Borden Village)
Best Raffle Prize: Thorntons Easter Egg
