FAVERSHAM UNITED THROUGH TO WEALD OF KENT CHARITY CUP
Faversham United ensured representation of a Canterbury League team in the Weald of Kent Charity Cup Junior Final for the second season in succession with a 6-2 victory in their semi-final against AFC Ashford Athletic at Lenham on Saturday.
Faversham were quick into their stride and were ahead after only 5 minutes when Billy Croucher was left free to run on to a through ball down the left flank and beat the advancing keeper with a low shot into the far corner of the net. Croucher then increased Faversham’s lead after only 13 minutes with a fine solo effort carrying the ball from just inside the opponents half past two defenders, cutting across the edge of the penalty area and firing past the goalkeeper. A third goal from Taylor Johanson after 28 minutes sent Faversham in at half time 3-0
AFC Ashford Athletic responded immediately after the break with a goal after only 2 minutes when Danny Christian ran on the a through ball down the right and confidently beat the goalkeeper with a strong shot into the far corner of the net. The recovery, however was short lived 10 minutes later when Billy Croucher completed his hat-trick and virtually sealed victory. A fine opportunistic strike by AFC Ashford’s Brad Freund high into the net from the edge of the penalty area on the half hour mark was perhaps the goal of the match but further Faversham goals from Paul Coe and again Billy Croucher in the last 10 minutes completed an impressive victory for the Canterbury League side.

Match Report:
Lydd Town Reserves through to Junior section Cup Final
“Lydd Town reserves won through to the Junior Section Final with a 5-0 victory over Smarden on Saturday at Cornes Meadow. In a first half generally dominated by the two defences neither team carved out many real goalscoring chances and it was the opportunism of Lydd’s Richard Weller on two occasions which made the difference. In the 22nd minute a Lydd free kick from the left was crossed deep into the Smarden penalty area and Weller outjumped Smarden defenders to head the ball into the far corner of the net. 20 minutes later a chase for a long ball down the right into the Smarden half was won by a Lydd attacker who cut inside the defender and crossed for the onrushing Weller to rise and head into the net for his second goal of the match despite valiant attempts by the Smarden goalkeeper to keep the header out. 2-0 to Lydd at the break.
Two more goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half virtually sealed victory for Lydd with both Joey Dibble and Richard Weller converting low crosses from the wing in almost identical moves - for Richard Weller a hat-trick. Chances a both end were now coming much more frequently as the match opened up and on another day Smarden’s Dave Law could have easily grabbed a couple of goals and Lydd could also have added to their goal tally. As it was just one more goal was to come with only 4 minutes left and the win assured, Lydd’s Bill Briffitt ran on to a through ball and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper for Lydd Town’s fifth of the match.”

WILLESBOROUGH AFC CONTINUE THEIR UNBEATEN RUN
In a high scoring match Willesborough athletic found themselves behind after only 2 minutes when a loose pass accross the centre of the defence was seized upon by Sittingbourne’s striker Marcus Odonobabe who rounder the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net.
Willesborough were level after 19 minutes when Kieran Lynn met a left wing cross unchallenged in the 6 yard box to head home. Seven minutes before half time Willesborough went ahead when Mark Road ran on to a through ball and fired a low shot into the corner of the net from 20 yards. The Willesborough advantage was extended immediately after the half time break when a flowing move down the right resulted in Riley Alford converting a low cross from close in. Two further goals by the same player within 60 seconds only 5 minutes later then virtually secured Willesborough’s victory although Sittingbourne continued to make a game of it and were rewarded with two further goals in the space of 10 minutes from Tyrone King and Marcus Odonobabe, his second in the match before Willesborough’s increasing pressure and control of the match in the last quarter resulted in Riley Alford scoring his fourth of the match, converting a left wing cross from close in to make the final score 6-3

“HAWKINGE TOWN HEAD FOR CUP-FINAL IN DEBUT YEAR”
Hawkinge Town from the Kent County League have reached the Weald of Kent Charity Cup Senior section Cup Final in their first year in the Competition after an impressive 3-0 semi-final victory over Lydd Town under the floodlights at Lindsey field. After an even first 10 minutes with little chances for either side the visitors took the lead when a long ball from midfield accurately found a Hawkinge forward on the left who attacked the penalty area and crossed a high ball dangerously to the far side of the 6 yard box. The ball was squared back by a Hawkinge player to a colleague who’s shot was saved by the Lydd goalkeeper but the rebound was poked over the line by Hawkinge’s Mark Childs
Hawkinge continued to edge play over their Invicta League opponents without creating any further real goal scoring chances but were then gifted a second goal when an underhit back pass allowed Hawkinge’s Wesley Blacket-Foord to beat the onrushing Lydd goalkeeper to the ball and run on and slot the ball into the unguarded net – a lead which a strong Hawkinge defence protected to half time.
The second half started much the same way as the first with defences generally dominating but with Hawkinge always looking dangerous on the break. After 7 minutes Hawkinge’s Wesley Blaskett-Foord and a Lydd defender chased a long clearance from defence over the half way line into the Lydd half. The Hawkinge player won the race , rounded the advancing goalkeeper and shot low into the empty net for his second goal of the match despite vain attempts by a chasing Lydd defender to stop him. Lydd continue to battle in an attempt to get back into the match but the strong Hawkinge defence restricted them to a handful of half chances only allowing the County League team to run out deserved winners.

LYDD TOWN REACH WEALD OF KENT CHARITY CUP SEMI-FINAL WITH LAST-GASP WINNER
Lydd Town reached the Weald of Kent Charity Cup senior semi-final with a last minute winner in a hard fought cup-tie against Kennington under the floodlights at Lindsey Field
Kennington started strongly but without really seriously threatening the Lydd goal.
Lydd then began to get their passing game going and fought back into the match and took the leaf after 15 minutes when Steve Harris ran on to a through ball into the area and although the advancing Kennington keeper partly saved his shot the ball ricoched across the edge of the 6 yard box and was fired high into the top of the net by the onrushing Carlum Macleod.
The best of the few chances created up to half time fell to Lydd but were wasted and 5 minutes from half time Kennington had a great opportunity to equalise when a strong free kick from the left found a Kennington player totally unmarked in the area but the attempted header was missed and the ball ran out for a goal kick.
Kennington came out strongly in the second half and pressurised the Lydd defence throughout particularly with attacks down the left flank. After 20 minutes a dangerous Kennington corner to the edge of the 6 yard box was headed goalwards and was headed off the line by Ryan Smith. The resulting second corner again threatened and needed another headed clearance over the goal line. The continuing Kennington pressure eventually brought it’s rewards after 25 minutes when Matt Forster ran onto a through ball into the area after another attack down the left and equalised with a strong low shot into the corner of the Lydd net.
With only a minute of normal time left and the match seemingly heading for extra time a rare Lydd break resulted in Carlum Macleod latching on to a loose ball in the Kennington area and scoring his second and the winning goal with a low shot into the corner of the net.

THREE SUTTONS THROUGH TO THE JUNIOR SECTION QUARTER FINALS
Three Suttons triumphed in the rain over Wittersham side in the remaining first round tie of the Weald of Kent Charity Cup Junior Section on January 9th running out 3 -1 winners in a close, hard fought tie.
Having relocated onto the artificial surface at Lenham due to pitch conditions at Three Suttons home ground, both sides had to adapt to the faster pace associated with 3G surfaces.
Suttons, settled quickly into their short passing game avoiding the long balls due to the increasing strong winds. With both sides committed in the challenges, Suttons suffered an early injury to centre back Gary Todd who opted to return to the field of play despite an ankle injury. This was to prove costly as no sooner had he returned , Wittersham scored the first goal of the afternoon following a strong run past the Suttons defence.
Suttons regrouped and continued to press Wittersham through midfield but attempts on goal was either blocked by a resolute defence or saved by an in form keeper. With 25 minutes gone, Suttons pulled the game level via a Max Gilman free kick which caught out the keeper through a crowded area.
The equaliser gave Suttons a lift and the attacks became more frequent and threatening ultimately leading to their second of the game just before the half time break. Playing the ball out from their keeper, Suttons crisp passing saw the ball played around the pitch eventually finding its way via a precise pass from Charlie Gray on the wing, to Ben Chapman who calmly rounded the diving keeper to slot home into the far corner.
With both teams making a number of changes the second half played out as the first with a number of attempts from the two sides being charged down or saved by both keepers. With the visitors pressing strongly for the equalising goal that would take the tie into extra time, Suttons had opportunities on the break to extend their lead but the result was only assured with a decisive third goal in injury time when Suttons Charlie Gray ran on to a cross field pass and shot across the Wittersham goal into the corner of the net.

WILLESBOROUGH ATHLETIC THROUGH TO SENIOR COMPETITION SEMI-FINALS
In a hard fought Senior Competition Quarter-final on a difficult pitch at Rolvenden, Willesborough Athletic gained a deserved 3-1 victory to send them through to a semi-final encounter against Sittingbourne Community FC.
Rolvended started off strongly and controlled much of the possession in the first 15 minutes but were caught out by what was Willesborough’s first threatening attack when Jason Simms ran on to a through ball and scored confidently. Within minutes Willesborough should have increased their advantage with a similar move which left Riley Alford one on one with the goalkeeper but his shot was comfortable saved.
Willesborough continued to look dangerous on the break but after 25 minutes a foul in the penalty area gave Rolvenden the opportunity to level the scores from the penalty spot which Culley Sayer converted.
After 30 minutes Willesborough had another wonderful opportunity to increase their lead when Riley Alford again ran clear on to a through ball in the penalty area but delayed his shot and instead passed to a colleague who was give narrowly offside.
Another Willesborough goal however followed shortly after yet another defence splitting run by Riley Alford with the forward wrongfooting the Rolvenden keeper to put his side ahead.
In the second half Willesborough continued to look the team most likely to score with the Rolvenden keeper being the busiest of the two and the Rolvenden forwards being restricted to half chances by a tight Willesborough defence marshalled well by Josh Jones.
With 15 minutes left a further Willesborough goal was disallowed because of a foul on the goalkeeper. 5 minutes later Rolvenden could and perhaps should have got back into the game when a fierce shot from Kevin Clifford was well saved by the Willesborough keeper and the resulting rebound was headed narrowly over the empty unguarded net.
Willesborough’s victory was finally sealed in injury time when Mark Read’s free kick from 25 yards found the net via a post.
